Beacon Solar Farm
Up to 2,700 acres of productive farmland will be lost to this industrial scheme. The project’s estimated capacity is 550 MW of solar — this will become one of the largest Solar developments within the United Kingdom.
Stop Beacon Solar is a community campaign group established to oppose Galileo Empower’s proposed Solar Generating Station a 2,700 acre industrial development threatening the unspoilt countryside, farmland and communities surrounding Holsworthy Beacon in beautiful rural Devon.
Our group both represents and comprises communities and residents affected by the proposals. The scheme which is centred around Holsworthy Beacon and extends as far as Chilsworthy, Sutcombe, Milton Damerel, Thornbury, Woodacott & Cookbury Wick. will destroy around 2,700 acres of beautiful countryside, precious farmland and our unique wildlife.
Stop Beacon Solar are not against the quest for renewable energy. We believe it should not be at the expense of our local economy. Whilst the efficiency of Solar Generation is questionable surely we should be looking to residential & industrial rooftops, car parks and brownfield sites before destroying vast swathes of countryside.

The Beacon proposal will potentially include hundreds of high-capacity battery storage installations — each carrying potential fire and safety risks, high levels of noise, and visual impact. The surrounding area will see significant increases in electrical structures.
